Happy Labor Day!! Hug a union worker today and go pet Scabby the rat.
Also, did you see the first Tudor City View attempt at promotions? If you are visiting this site because of my catchy taglines and incredibly-sexy QR codes, welcome! I’m super happy to have you here and I swear I will do my best not to disappoint.
The big news over here is that this week, I will be posting my interview with Mark Jay Harris, one of the original group of people who laid down in front of bulldozers to save our parks back in the early 1980s. He’s got an incredible story and a wonderful perspective on how we all can help our neighborhood. Def subscribe so you won’t miss it.
The history of this neighborhood is going to be starting to crescendo in this coming year. Because Tudor City is hitting its one hundredth birthday. A full century of history and what Mark, John McKean, and other dedicated neighbors did forty-six years ago was a huge part of preserving what we know and love about this neighborhood.
There’s a lot of history to celebrate and a lot of history to be learned about. All of it informs where the next hundred years take us.
So I am on the lookout for people from every building. I want to start getting some of the history of the buildings down and noticed. Send me an email at tudorcityview@gmail.com!
CIVICALLYS
Fall Yoga starts on September 19th in the North Park.
Have you checked out Tudor City Confidential lately? Seriously, I love the posts there. The recent one about “the ongoing saga of Elizabeth McLoud and Apartment 1430 in No. 5” is just adorable.
If you want to volunteer with Tudor City Greens, you can! Here is where to go.
TO DO
The free Bryant Park Summer movies continue into September. Galaxy Quest is tonight! I was able to put aside my innate dislike of that Home Improvement guy and embrace a true love this film. Mostly because of Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman, but the whole thing is epic.
Saint Vitus is back! The Greenpoint heavy metal venue that shut down a few years ago has a new space. The Callous Daoboys are playing on Thursday, after an opening weekend that saw Anthrax perform. This is all dependent on if you like the loud musics, of course.
Starting up on Friday, 9/11, it’s the Subway Series. The kicking-ass Yankees will take on my painful-annoying Mets. Whatever happens, New York will win.
City Sounds 2026 is happening at St. Mark’s Church-in-the-Bowery on Saturday, September 12th
WHAT’S IN THE NORTH PARK LIBRARY RIGHT NOW?
BODEGA OF THE WEEK
Alright time to shout out the Bodega in 5 Tudor City Place. Heck, I didn’t even know it existed until about six months ago. Super friendly people there, great cup of coffee, nice way to start the day and if you need a Snickers bar fix, they got you. You know, a good bodega.
And on a related note, and nothing against religion, but… I’d really prefer a bodega instead of a church on the corner of 43rd and Tudor City Place. Bodegas are my religion, I reckon.
